Branson Update

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Hey guys, first of all I want to apologize for taking sooooooo long in posting a new blog. My life has been extremely crazy since getting back from the Branson Youth Trip, better known as Winter XTreme. In case someone reads this and don’t know what I am talking about is, every year there is a youth conference in Branson, MO called Winter Xtreme. This past Dec. was the second year that we have taken the youth of JSWC to this conference. We took 20 people this year which was up from 11 the year before. We also took David & Sandra and they helped drive the second van and also helped to corral the teens…16 teenagers is quite a handfull for just Jill and myself. However, I must say that the teens were very respectful and was no problem whatsoever and basically would have made all their parents and the people of JSWC proud of the way that they conducted themselves on the trip away from their parents. Kudos to the teens!!!!

The conference itself was amazing!!! Each service was unique in its own way but similar in the fact that the anointing and power of God was present at each and every session. In the Sunday morning and Sunday evening services we had a number of teens experience the touch of God in their lives and several of them stood at the end in front of 4,000 teenagers in an act of total, unashamed surrender to God. Many of them received spiritual and emotional healings in their lives. They found themselves making new committments to God, many teenagers in the building made comittments to Christ for the very first time, it was very powerful. One of the services, God moved in a special way…the Spirit was moving across the building and teens all over the building began crying out to God and standing in the isles and other teens from the the groups began laying hands on their friends and crying out to God for them. Sometimes we as Christians can try to be so “holy” that we try to pray these deep spiritual prayers and in this particular service the speaker – David Nasser, was leading us in this total and “all out” cry to God, simply saying “Help Me God, Help Me God…” And the ones that were not standing began to pray for the ones standing….just crying out for them. It was an awesome display of God’s love and grace throughout that entire building, I don’t think there were too many dry eyes in that place.

I had the awesome priveledge of praying with many of the teens at these services, and seeing how God moved in their lives was a completely life changing and I know that the seeds that were planted at this conference in their hearts and lives won’t return void and their lives will not ever be the same. There was also some other highlights as well. There was a headbanging, heavy metal Christian band that was there, called Disciple. I got to witness David Cronk jumping up and down headbanging with them…I know what your thinking if you know David, “he was doing what????” Anyway, it was awesome to see how God can use any of us if we are willing to be used. Well, that was just a small glimpse of the conference, there were many more stories that I could tell, but for sake of time and cramping in my hands from typing I won’t. Lastly, I just want to say on behalf of ClubIdentity, to all the people of Joyful Sound Worship Center, we love you guys and we thank you for your financial support in helping make this trip possible. Your financial contributions and willingness to help in many more ways than just your money has blessed our youth group and your investments into each of their lives reach further than any of us may know. Many times in ministry, no matter what it is, the fruits of your sacrificial givings may not show up for years down the road, but we can always hold on to the promise of God in Isaiah 55:11 (and I will paraphrase) “That His word will not return unto Him void, and it will accomplish everything that He sent it to accomplish.” Sometimes it’s days, weeks, months, or years but if God’s Word is true, and I know it is, there will be a harvest to the seeds that you all have helped to plant. So Thank You, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are excited about this new year and everything that God has in store for all of us. We believe that God is going to take us and everyone that reads this blog to a new and deeper understanding of Him in ‘09.

Good News

Hello everybody, this marks the first week of no more classes for me until next semester, yes!!!! That means no reading, no writing papers, no group projects, no nothing until mid-January. So now, I can actually work outside in the cold but that’s ok, I definitely need to work (at least that’s what Jill is telling me, lol). I have not intentionally neglected the blog, I just have been so wrapped up in my school work and my final class projects that I have not had too much time to update the blog.

First of all, to all the teens: You guys & gals did a fantastic job leading the service at church on Sunday the 7th. I have received so many compliments about how well everybody did. The worship service was awesome, and the thing is, your participation is what allowed the spirit to flow so freely in that service, there were mighty spiritual and emotional healings that took place in that service and I know that our sincere and prayerful hearts is what set the stage for the service. You may think that it will be hard to duplicate that service but the important thing to keep in mind is that as long as we totally surrender to God each and everytime and allow him to minister through us then there will always be a moving of his spirit. It may not be the same thing as before but it will be the right thing, for that particular service.

Branson Update: Thanks to everyone who has given so generously to our fundraising efforts that all go toward our Branson Youth Conference. Our goal was to raise at least $1,000, I do not have the totals to this point but I believe we are unofficially over $1,300 and money is still coming in. We have the raffel that is still going on thru this Sunday the 21st. Most of you know Spring and her sister Penny…they have so graciously helped us out with their time, money, and talents. They both have made jewelry and an afghan that they are donating 100% of the profits to the Branson Trip. They are both awesome, thanks so much to both of you.

ClubIdentity (youth group) has seen a lot of growth in the past couple of months and we are excited about our newest members, we look forward great things that the Lord is doing through each and everyone of you.

I hope each and everyone of you have a great Christmas but please don’t forget the real meaning of Christmas. It’s so easy to get caught up in the frenzy that we all seem to get caught up in. Remember to be thankful for all that you have and to remember those that are less fortunate than you and I.

One of those days

Have you ever had one of those days where you just didn’t feel very motivated? That has been the case around here the last couple of days. Actually yesterday was one of those days where I felt like just being in a bad mood and I don’t even know why…it’s crazy to even be like that. Like I’ve said to the youth many times we have the ability to choose what kind of attitude we’re going to have. We may not be able to choose the circumstance or the situation but we have the ability to choose how we react to a situation. So I had to put my money where my mouth is and snap out of it and get the move on. Today has been much better, except Jill and Brett my youngest boy has been feeling under the weather today, it’s never any fun when the little ones are not feeling too perky. But the cool thing about it all was I prayed for Jill and Brett this morning, and later in the day Brett said, “Dad, God made me feel better.” That put a smile on my face!
Well, last week was an extremely busy week for me with my grad classes that I’m taking. For those that don’t know, I graduated from Pitt State in 2000 and after an 8 year absence I decided to go back to school and get my masters degree in Sports/Business Administration from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. I am also an assist. baseball coach there. The Lord opened some doors for me to be an assistant there and pay for all my schooling. The classes are mostly online but I have to still go to Warrensburg for baseball practice. Needless to say, last week was crazy, I had 3 big assignments that were due, but thank God, my wife and my mom getting all my papers typed I was able to get them all turned in on time, and one of the assignments I already got back and I got an A on it, so I was very happy to say the least, PTL.
Speaking of classes, I have a class called Sports Administration and Management and the proffessor is an awesome dude, he is a great man of God and he sends me emails once in a while telling me that God has placed me there (coaching baseball) for more than baseball, he said I am helping further the Kingdom…when you think of it along those lines, we all have an awesome responsibility not just to god but to those around us. When you understand that no matter where you are in your job, or at school or life in general, we have a great responsibility to act in a manner that is pleasing to him. And in doing so, we are allowing Christ to minister through us. God is constantly searching for people that he can use for his glory…II Chronicles 16:9 says, “that the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is after God…” God will use you wherever you are if you will allow him to and he will take bad situations and turn them into opportunities for your betterment (not sure that is a word or not, but oh well). Well, it is 12:35am I am hearing my pillow calling my name. Have a great rest of the week and a HAPPY Thanksgiving…here’s a challenge for the week. Since it is Thanksgiving this week, if there is anyone in your life that maybe there has been some issues with, call them up or email them and let them know your thinking about them and wish them a happy thanksgiving, you never know what it may do to that person but for sure it will bless you. And for sure let the people in your life that are special to you let them know how much they mean to you.
That’s it guy’s, have a blessed week!

Taking that step…

11/10/08

Well, up to this point I have considered myself a complete novice when it comes to websites and for sure blogging. I am what you call a rookie. I have taken that step so to speak and decided to dive in and try to figure it all out. What I am beginning to see is that it is not that difficult to understand when it has all the software that basically does everything for ya. This may not be the greatest looking website or blog but hopefully you will understand that I am trying and doing my best!

Now that I said that, this blog has been designed to try and help keep the youth of Joyful Sound Worship Center informed on “stuff” that will be taking place as well as enlightening thoughts (at least I hope so…) from me and maybe on occasion from my wonderful wife Jill.

For the past few weeks I have felt impressed (at teen class) to use stories and excerpts from Joel Osteen’s book “Your Best Life Now” as a guide for our weekly lessons. This book was given to me as a birthday gift (the BIG 30) a couple of years ago from a very godly lady from our church, Helen Lively. This book set on my night stand for over a year and I had the very best of intentions to read and me not being a big reader just sort of kept putting it off and putting it off, until one night I opened the pages and began to read and I could not hardly lay it down. There is so much wisdom in this book and I get something new out of it every time I open it up. Some of the things that has ministered to me, is the fact that we all have our own sets of trials and tests. It may not be a big deal to some people but when it’s your faith that is being tested or your getting close to the fire and your feeling the presures or the heat, then it becomes a pretty big deal. But the key is realizing that for every problem there is a solution, we may not know what it is but God does. That is where our faith must be activated and our responsibility is seeing in our own mind and heart that we sometimes have to change in order for a situation to turn around. It’s easy to point a finger and lay blame, but we have to look at our own selves and know that we have the power with God’s help to change, and what I talked about Sunday was that it usually starts with that one little word called ATTITUDE! We truly can choose how our attitude is going to be, we may not be able to pick the adversity or the situation but how we react will determine whether or not we will be successful in most situations.

One song that I am listening to a lot here lately is called “Everlasting God” by Lincoln Brewster. This song talks about how our strength will be empowered when we wait upon the Lord and that God reigns forever and that our hope is in Him and that he is our strong deliverer. The book of Isaiah talks about they that wait upon the Lord their strength will be renewed…when we learn to wait much like a waiter or a waitress waits on a table then our strength will be renewed. If you don’t know about the song that I am talking about, go to I-Tunes and download that song, it will cost you 99 cents (make sure you have permission) It’s an awesome song with a pretty cool beat. Have a great day!…
